Working in the industry

Forest products are everywhere. From the shelves housing books in your local library, to the packaging your weekly groceries come in. Many of these products are made right here in Wisconsin in mills (where the raw material is processed) and in converting facilities (where the processed material is given value). But mills and converters aren’t the only part of the industry – it also includes the supply chain from trucking the logs to the mill to building the manufacturing equipment.

The innovation, sustainability, and diversification of these products continue to enhance our lives. Wisconsin is the #1 papermaking state and the forest products industry is one of the top ten industries in the state (WIDNR), making it the perfect place to start a career in a critical industry.

Programs

Koch Scholars Program

  • Students interested in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or IT. Applications close on February 28th.

2025 Environmental Education Internship - Trees for Tomorrow

  • The deadline for submitting applications for this 10-week opportunity is April 4, 2025. This year's internship program begins June 2nd and ends August 8th.

Forest Operations Immersion Training Program

  • Apply by February 28, 2025. The Forest Operations Immersion Training Program will prepare participants for forestry operations and equipment maintenance careers. During this six-week, 240-hour experiential certificate program, participants gain experience with forestry practices while operating and maintaining equipment used for tree felling, merchandising, and forest road construction. Participants also receive 5 college credits from UW-Stevens Point that can be applied toward a future forestry degree. The program is based at the Treehaven field station near Tomahawk, Wis.
